Huawei MateBook D 15: A Mid-range Laptop with High-end Looks
A notable aspect of the Huawei MateBook 15 is the marriage of a large screen with lightweight. The 15.6-inch screen rests in a chassis measuring 357.8mm broad by 229.9mm deep and 16.9mm thick. These dimensions are the same as those of last year’s model. It weighs 1.56. The aluminum alloy chassis helps keep the weight down, and although the size and weight may be obvious in a backpack, that huge screen may make the small inconvenience worth your while.
Huawei notes that the Huawei MateBook 15 has undertaken several testing, including the capacity to endure 40°C temperature and 90 percent relative humidity, along with tests for the durability of the USB-C port and fingerprint key and life tests on the keyboard, screen hinge, and touchpad.
Design of Huawei MateBook 15
The Huawei MateBook 15 is designed simply and humbly. The Huawei emblem on the rear has been replaced by powerful typography, which is much more elegant. The bottom edge, below the touchpad, features a very large divot that swiftly opens the lid, so avoiding confusion in the wrist rest area, in keeping with the minimalist theme.
Huawei MateBook D 15 features three full-size USB ports in addition to a USB port for new devices and an HDMI connector. On the right, you’ll find two USB 2.0 ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack, while on the left, you’ll find one USB 3.0 port, a USB-C port, and a full-size HDMI. The USB-C connection offers both charging and data transfer.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard itself is quite comfortable to use. The keys are generously sized and evenly spaced, with a slightly rough feel that contrasts nicely with smoother keys. Like the cursor keys, the Fn row keys are relatively large; the left and right cursor keys are full-sized. I had no difficulty typing at my typical speed using touch typing.
The touchpad is generously sized and snappy, and a fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button, which is located to the right of the keyboard, and above the Fn key row.
The 15.6-inch screen lies in narrow upper and side bezels of 5.3mm. However, the bottom bezel is much deeper. This translates into a reported screen-to-body ratio of 87%. The upper bezel isn’t deep enough to house a camera. Therefore the same convention is utilized here as was found in last year’s MateBook X Pro (2020) and MateBook D 15 (2020), with the pop-up camera housed in the keyboard, under an Fn row key.
Verdict | Sophisticated and Affordably priced
The Huawei MateBook 15 has a few strong characteristics. It has a premium feel for a much smaller laptop, with a solid metal frame, a strong blue light filter, and an IPS panel with minimal bezels. Despite its remarkably compact profile, you’ll have access to a variety of ports and interfaces.
