Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator has a mission of reporting on “well-run” nonprofits and has a reputation for evaluating nonprofits from a financial perspective. Nonprofits are required to file a 990 with the IRS in the U.S., and this site allows you to search for and view the 990 reports for nonprofits. With the 990 reports, you can learn the salary for many nonprofit executive director jobs all over the country.
The National Council of Nonprofits produces is a network of many state councils of nonprofits and curates resources, samples, and tools for nonprofits. Their various resources are organized by categories such as employment, ethics and accountability, advocacy, fundraising, boards and governance, diversity, equity and inclusion, leadership, and financial management.
They produce a report entitled Nonprofit Impact Matters that provides the story of nonprofits told from their perspective and invaluable data about the sector. They also have a job board for careers in nonprofit organizations.
Some of the other tools and resources the Council provides are related to fundraising, how much independent audits should cost, best practices for telecommuting and remote workers, sexual harassment in the workplace. Also, they provide an overview of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB) new standards. On their site, you can find a director of the various state nonprofits associations in the United States of America.

The Society for Nonprofits also holds a virtual conference on the topic of compliance and whether or not nonprofits are vulnerable to fraud and conflicts of interest. Their national director assists nonprofits with engaging leading companies that offer a variety of products and services for the not-for-profit sector.
